Friday, 24 February 2012 | 16:30
As an important component of South-East International Shipping Center, the preparation for Xiamen Shipping Exchange is underway. The exchange will be based on mainland China and Taiwan, and it possesses five functions, including ship sales and rents, cargo transactions, shipping talent exchanges, shipping transaction intermediary services, and shipping transaction information disclosure. The establishment of the exchange will enhance the “discourse power” of South-East International Shipping Center in shipping industry.
Last year, Xiamen Port Authority initiated the search on enacting Rules for Administering Xiamen Shipping Exchange, and won approval of the Ministry of Transport to establish a traffic E-port sub-center at Xiamen port. The planning Xiamen Shipping Exchange can also conduct research on the development strategies of port shipping to provide reference for the policy-making of the government.
In terms of cargo transactions, Xiamen Shipping Exchange possesses the advantage of specialized market to attract the settlement of high-end shipping companies and logistics companies, and to thus develop a high-end industrial chain of shipping services.
The Master Plan has specified a special positioning for Xiamen Shipping Exchange-pioneering experimental transaction with Taiwan. Currently, the large ports of Taiwan are undergoing a new round of integration. In the process of constructing South-East International Shipping Center and Xiamen Shipping Exchange, Xiamen port will have more opportunities to establish connection with Taiwan, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win while strengthening itself.
