Italy’s crude steel output rises 4.6 percent in January

According to the figures released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in January this year Italian crude steel output rose by 4.6 percent year on year, totaling 2.19 million metric tons.
Federacciai also released Italy's long and flat steel output data for December last year.
Accordingly, in the last month of 2011 Italy's long steel output was down 12.7 percent year on year, totaling 706,000 metric tons. On the other hand, in the same month Italian flat steel output amounted to 967,000 metric tons, decreasing by 20.7 percent year on year.
In the whole of 2011, long steel production in Italy reached 12.9 million mt, up 5.9 percent, while flat steel production grew by 14.3 percent to 14.4 million mt, both compared to 2010.
