Japanese steel product imports up by 11.4pct YoY in FY 2011-12

According to statistics, Japan's steel product imports amounted to 8.424 million tonnes in fiscal year 2011-12
ended on March 31st 2012, rising by 11.4% YoY.
Among them, 4.634 million tonnes were common steel products, increasing by 20.8% YoY and 453,000 tonnes were special steel products, surging by 41.5% YoY.
For the common steel product, 3.042 million tonnes were imported from South Korea, increasing by 25.2% YoY; 674,000 tonnes were from China, rising by 12.3% YoY and 849,000 tonnes were from Taiwan, up by 16.8% YoY.
For steel long products, 23,900 tonnes were steel sheet piles, soaring by 440% YoY; 75,000 tonnes were H beams, down by 9% YoY; 31,500 tonnes were steel wire, rising by 12.8% YoY and 31,0000 tonnes were steel bar, increasing by 14.5% YoY.
For steel flat products, 1.799 million tonnes were hot rolled coil, rising by 10.3% YoY; 910,000 tonnes were cold rolled steel sheets, up by 6.9% YoY; 602,000 tonnes were galvanized steel plates, soaring by 34.8% YoY; 47,500 tonnes were electrical steel, jumping by 67.8% YoY and 47,500 tonnes were tinplate, rising by 25.9% YoY.
