Ananda Shipyard to deliver 2 largest vessels to German cos by March 10

Country's pioneer in ship export Ananda Shipyard will deliver two largest vessels ever built in the country worth $22.5 million to German companies by March 10 this year.
The first consignment of the orders… 104.135- meter long 'Wes Grain', worth $10.5 million, having a capacity of 5,500 dwt (deadweight tonne), will be delivered to German company Wessels Reederei GmbH & Co on February 10, officials said.
The other 110.90 -meter long multipurpose container vessel namely "Enzian", worth $12 million with a capacity of 6100 dwt, will be delivered to German Komorowsky Maritim GmbH by March 10, director (technical) of Ananda Shipyard and Shipways Ltd (ASSL) Md Saiful Islam told the FE.
He said the vessels were built at a cost of $10.5 million to $12 million under a $92 million project to deliver 8 ships to the German companies within June 2013.
The ASSL director said the two vessels were built in last two and a half years in compliance with all the latest International Maritime Organisation guidelines under the supervision of Germanischer Lloyd.
The vessels can sustain in cryogenic weather condition and that is why those are certified as E3 ice-class vessels.
He pointed out that 3,000 tonnes of ice-class steel were fabricated by using 70 tonnes of welding electrodes to build per ship while 60 kilometers of marine cables and 35,000 litres of paints were used for protecting it form decaying.
The 'Wes Grain' underwent a successful sea trial on February 5.
"Another two ships of the same capacities, worth $22.5 million will be delivered to the German companies within June this year," he added.
"Being an emerging ship building nation and despite our limitations, this is a matter of pride for the country that we have come back to our long past tradition of shipbuilding," chairman of ASSL Dr Abdullahel Bari said.
He said, "Bangladesh has now secured a position in the world of manufacturing high quality technical and engineering products with the launch of exportable ships, which have brighten the image of the country".
Dr Bari, also president of Association of Export -Oriented Shipbuilding Industries of Bangladesh, expressed his optimism that the ship building sector has a possibility to capture nearly 5 per cent of the global small ship export market which could help the country to fetch $15 billion to $20 billion in near future.
Bangladesh is now emerging as a ship exporter country by receiving orders of ocean-going ships and ferries from the EU countries like Germany, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands for having all types of state-of-the-art facilities.
Ananda Shipyard, Western Marine, Khan Brothers Shipbuilding, Highspeed Ltd, Narayanganj Shipbuilders, Dhaka Dockyard and Karnaphuli Shipyard are the leading builders that attracted a number of international buyers for local ships.
The industry received export order worth $ 500 million with a deadline to deliver those by 2013, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data showed.
