STX PO launches solar-powered car carrier

Friday, 20 April 2012 | 14:30
STX Pan Ocean has completed the installation of solar panels to generate power on a 6,700-car equivalent units car carrier STX Dove.
The car carrier was constructed at STX Dalian yard and delivered in January last year.
The solar power modules can generate a maximum of 24 kilowatts of electricity, enough to cover only about 5% of total power during operation. STX Pan Ocean plans to expand the output to 60 kilowatts at the end of this year and 120 kilowatts in 2013.
STX Solar was in charge of development for solar photovoltaic facility while STX Marine Service installed the panels and provided technical advices.
