Japanese all industry activity grew 1.3 percent month-on-month in December, reversing last month's 1 percent fall, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Tuesday. However, the rate of growth was weaker than the 1.5 percent rise forecast by economists.
Construction industry activity dropped 1.9 percent, offsetting the 1.9 percent growth seen in November. Meanwhile, industrial production grew 3.8 percent after easing 2.7 percent a month ago.
Likewise, tertiary activity expanded 1.4 percent, recovering from the 0.6 percent drop. By contrast, the index of government services dipped 0.4 percent compared to November's flat growth.
On a yearly basis, all industry activity logged a decline of 0.5 percent, but smaller than November's 1.1 percent fall.
