ABB signed with China's Shanghai Shipyard to provide electric solutions for the first two drillships ever to be built in China.
The power and automation technology group will supply electric power generation and distribution systems, drilling drives and electric propulsion system-thruster drives for the drillships.
ABB will also provide life-cycle project and engineering management, electrical plant and equipment classification, onsite technical support and after-sale services.
Singapore's Opus Offshore contracted Shanghai Shipyard to engineer and construct the 160-metre-long Tiger series drillships, which will be equipped to operate in water depths of up to 915 meters upon delivery.
