Port prepares for tropical low
Tuesday, January 19, 2021, Port Hedland, Australia

Tropical Low 08U is currently predicted to make landfall in the vicinity of Port Hedland as early as Friday morning (22 January). The port is now at Cyclone Alert Stage 2 – Prepare .

AT 0800 hours local time today (19 January), Tropical Low 08U was located North West of Darwin in approximate position 10.9S, 127.6E. It is expected to continue to move in a West-SouthWesterly direction and is predicted to take a more southerly track from Thursday.

The low is expected to intensify to a category 3 tropical cyclone.

Cyclone weakened

Ex Tropical Cyclone Kimi has now weakened to a tropical low and moved off the North Queensland coast.

The ports of Cape Flattery, Cairns, Mourilyan, Townsville and Lucinda have re-opened.

Towage services fee to increase

Riverwijs have advised that the towage services fee adjustment for ships using the North West Shelf and Pluto terminals at Dampier will increase from 1 February, as follows:

NEW RATE (effective 1 February 2021)

Riverwijs advise that this incremental increase has been passed on by the facility owners.

Hub re-opened

Buckeye Bahamas Hub has re-opened due to favourable weather conditions, and vessels are now being berthed to the outer jetties.
