At this week’s meeting of the European Parliament Sweden’s Minister for the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, emphasised the importance of reducing emissions from sea and air transport in order to break off the rising emissions curve in time.
“Emissions from shipping and aviation must also be reduced, and the
industries must also contribute financially so that measures for the
poorest developing countries can be increased”, said Mr Carlgren in his
opening address.
In order to reach the two degree target, he said, emissions from
aviation must be reduced by 10 per cent by 2020 compared with 2005 and
from shipping by 20 per cent over the same period.
