gl_thumb.jpgDue to the increasing number of maritime clients in Western and Southern Sweden, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) is restructuring its organisation in Sweden. From March 1, the Country Office is located in Gothenburg. The country management is sited in the existing GL Gothenburg Station Office. GL is a ship classification society and an international technical assurance and consulting company for the energy sector. The company will maintain a strong presence in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Karlstad in Sweden, Turku and Helsinki in Finland, Oslo, Alesund and Bergen in Norway, Copenhagen, Alborg, Arhus and Fredericia in Denmark and in Reykjavik in Iceland.
Germanischer Lloyd employs 6,800 engineers, surveyors, experts and administrative staff in 80 countries. The global network consists of more than 200 locations around the globe. Ship owners, shipyards, the maritime supply industry and some 130 flag states are the primary customers of GL's ship classification and maritime consulting activities. GL classes container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels, high-speed ferries and cruise ships as well as yachts and sport boats. 6,903 ships are currently surveyed on a regular basis by GL.
Besides traditional classification services of plan approval, inspection and certification of materials and components as well as technical assessment of ships in service, GL puts particular emphasis on ship energy efficiency and environmental issues. The new business line "Maritime Solutions" provides expert advice towards optimizing hull design, propeller performance, engine output, energy management, and even crew performance.  In addition, the scope of services covers consultancy, advanced engineering, certification, training and software solutions.
