Amendments to California’s Marine Invasive Species Program will come into force soon

California has amended regulation in section 2298.5 in Article 4.8 of Title 2, Division 3 of Chapter 1 of the California Code of Regulations. The regulatory changes become effective on 1 January 2021. It changes the way ships should submit information through the Marine Invasive Species Program Annual Vessel Reporting Form.

The California Marine Invasive Species Program (MISP) is designed to reduce the risk of introducing nonindigenous species into their waters from ship 300 GT and above that are capable of carrying ballast water.

The amended regulations require the annual submission of the Marine Invasive Species Program Annual Vessel Reporting Form (AVRF) to be made through the web-based platform MISP.IO at least 24 hours prior to a ship’s first arrival at a California port during each calendar year.

The California Land Commission will provide a webinar on 15 December 2020, at 11:00 AM (PST) to walk viewers through the process of completing and submitting the AVRF through the web-based platform MISP.IO.
