Cargo shipping along NSR could double to 72 mln tonnes in 2024 – Eastern Development Ministry

The volume of cargo shipped along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) could reach 72 million tonnes in 2024, Russia’s First Deputy Minister for Far East and Arctic Development Gadzhimagomed Huseynov, said in a statement.

“Companies have overall undertaken to ship slightly more than 72 million tonnes of cargo along the NSR in 2024 and about 193 million tonnes in 2030,” Huseynov said on Thursday during The Arctic: Present and Future international conference in St. Petersburg.

“We plan this year to ship a record volume of cargo for the NSR at 36 million tonnes. Let me remind you that the record volume in Soviet times was 6.5 million tonnes,” Huseynov added.
Consequently, the volume of cargo shipped along the NSR could double next year.
