Chinese captain’s sentence cut in killing of pirates

The Kaohsiung branch of the High Court on Thursday reduced a Chinese man’s jail sentence from 26 years to 13 for allegedly ordering the killing of suspected pirates while captain of a Taiwanese vessel in 2012. Wang Fengyu was arrested on Aug. 22, 2020, after the ship he was captain of at that time, the Seychelles-flagged Indian Star, docked at the Port of Kaohsiung. Greece accuses Iran of ‘piracy’ following seizure of two oil tankers in Gulf

Greece accused Iran of “piracy” after Tehran’s Revolutionary Guards said they seized two Greek-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf Friday. “These actions are tantamount to acts of piracy,” the foreign ministry said in a statement, warning Greek citizens to avoid travelling to Iran. Athens said Iranian navy helicopters had landed gunmen on the two tankers earlier on Friday. One of them, the Delta Poseidon, was sailing in international waters at the time, the ministry said. Navy Foils Pirate Attack on Iranian Ship in Red Sea

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said on Wednesday that one of the country’s merchant ships in the Red Sea made a mayday call after coming under attack from pirates this morning.
