China-made cruiser sets sail for polar tour

The Greg Mortimer, China’s first self-made cruise ship for polar expeditions, set sail for the southern Argentine city of Ushuaia Monday before launching its South Pole voyage. Constructed by China Merchants Industry Holdings, a subsidiary of the China Merchants Group, the cruise ship was delivered to the U.S.-based cruise vessel provider Sunstone Friday. The Chinese shipbuilder has so far accepted orders for seven polar cruise ships and three medium-sized cruise ships. Dubai welcomes five cruise ships in one day

Dubai’s Mina Rashid Port recently welcomed five cruise ships in one day, bolstering its position as a leading cruise ship destination. The 2018/19 cruise season ended with a record increase of over 51 per cent in cruise tourist footfall. There was also a 38 per cent increase in cruise ship dockings season-on-season, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
