CEO Change at BNCT

New CEO of BNCT appointed to continue its growth and long-serving, dedicated CEO leaves for other endeavors
Korea’s most modern container terminal, BNCT co. Ltd. (Busan New Container Terminal) announces change of its President & CEO via board resolution effective 23 March 2021 during its recent general meeting of shareholders which was held on 19 March.
Mr. Deuk Seon “Chris” Choi has been appointed as BNCT’s President & CEO and will replace Mr. John Elliott.

Chris has a proven track record managing successful shipping and terminal businesses and is an accomplished leader, most recently holding the position of Vice President, US West Coast for Ceres Terminals where he was responsible for all operational and commercial activities. Chris began his career at Hanjin Shipping in Seoul and before joining Ceres Terminals in January 2017, Chris served as Director of Planning & Contracts for Total Terminals International, LLC in Long Beach, CA and was responsible for the overall performance of the company with a focus on service, sustainability, and operational excellence. Chris received an undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in USA and a MA in Shipping and Logistics Management from Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea.

After serving 3 consecutive terms as President & CEO of BNCT for a total of 9 years, Mr. John Elliott is retiring from the company to pursue other endeavors. Joining in January of 2012 when BNCT opened as Asia’s first semi-automated container terminal using Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC), Mr. Elliott’s leadership has ensured the company’s rapid growth most notably via successful completion of two major expansion projects which increased BNCT’s capacity from 1.8 million TEU to 2.5 million TEU in 2015 and more recently from 2.5million TEU to over 3.2million TEU in January 2021. With more than 30 years of C-level experience in the maritime and port industry John’s high international standards and extensive global network of relationships have been critical to BNCT’s’ success as well as Busan Port’s continued growth.
