Cheniere-controlled Fuji LNG loads first Argentinian exports: cFlow

The Cheniere Energy-controlled Fuji LNG was loading Wednesday from the Tango floating liquefaction unit (FLNG) in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, as it readied to carry the first LNG exports from that country, according to data from cFlow, S&P Global Platts’ trade flow software.

Cheniere was heard to be the purchaser of YPF’s 30,000 cu m cargo from Argentina’s FLNG.

YPF and Cheniere could not be reached for comment.

With winter around the corner in the Southern Hemisphere, the goal was to load Argentina’s first LNG export cargo before cold weather blocks the opportunity, a source familiar with the LNG export market in Argentina said.

YPF hired the barge under a 10-year lease from Belgium’s Exmar. The terminal has the capacity to store 16,100 cu m/d of LNG and liquefy 2.5 million cu m/d of gas.

The Fuji LNG tanker had been unloading at Escobar’s LNG regasification plant since May 21 and headed to Bahia Blanca on May 23, where Tango FLNG is located, S&P Global Analytics data showed Wednesday.

The destination for the 30,000 cu m of LNG remains unknown, but a source in the market said it could be in the Caribbean or remain in South America.
