China’s Apr natural gas imports rise 13% on year to 7.65 mil mt
China’s natural gas imports, comprising LNG and pipeline gas, totaled 7.65 million mt, or 10.55 Bcm, in April, preliminary data released Wednesday by the General Administration of Customs showed.
The total was up 12.7% year on year from 6.79 million mt, or 9.37 Bcm, S&P Global Platts calculations based on historical data from the customs showed.
Over January-April, China imported a total 31.89 million mt, or 43.97 Bcm, of natural gas, up 16.4% from 27.39 million mt, or 37.77 Bcm, from the same period last year, according to customs data.
The April imports were also up 10.3% from 6.94 million mt, or 9.37 Bcm, imported in March — the first month-on-month rise after two consecutive monthly drops this year, Platts calculations showed.
Preliminary import data does not separate specific volumes for LNG and pipeline gas. The detailed data will be released by customs later in May.
