China’s coal price drops in mid-November amid government’s sweeping measures
China’s coal prices have dropped significantly in mid-November compared with the beginning of the month, with the price of coking coal and coke declining 19.8 percent and 16.8 percent, respectively, after Chinese authorities ramped up efforts to stabilize market supply and curb price rise, latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Wednesday.
The price of coking coal and coke has plunged to 3010.7 yuan ($471.2) and 3243.5 yuan per ton in mid-November, according to the NBS. Ordinary mixed coal (4,500 kilocaloriel) also plunged by 7 percent to reach 874.3 yuan a ton in mid-November.
Other types of energy such as LNG also recorded a contraction of 1.7 percent to 7,508.4 yuan a ton in mid-November, the NBS data showed.
Among the 50 types of key materials for production that is being monitored on a regular basis, 35 of them showed price decrease in mid-November compared with the beginning of the month, indicating that China has ensured a stable supply of bulk commodities despite the global price hike.
