China’s Kunlun Energy starts gas pipeline project in Tianjin – CNPC

Energy giant China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) said on Friday its unit Kunlun Energy began a natural gas pipeline project in Tianjin on Sept. 11, with an expected daily transmission capacity of 3.3 million cubic metres.

The Baodi Natural Gas Utilization Project will supply gas to industrial and business users and 450,000 homes in the districts of Baodi, Ninghe and Jizhou in the northern municipality of Tianjin.

CNPC said as part of China’s move from “coal to gas”, the three districts had shifted to imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) for daily activities, but high operation and transport costs made it tough to satisfy rising natural gas demand in Tianjin.

CNPC expects the Baodi natural gas project to help China control air pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The project would also support Tianbao Industrial Park and Tianjin Zhongguancun Science Park, set to be built later in Baodi.

Kunlun Energy Co Ltd is controlled by CNPC’s listed unit, PetroChina .
