Cyprus Shipping Chamber tackles Red Sea security at ICS Meeting
The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) leadership represented the Cypriot shipping industry at a recent meeting of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London.
The event involved discussions on numerous issues, including the attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, along with developments concerning emissions reduction targets.
According to a statement from the CSC, Cyprus was represented by the chamber’s president Themis Papadopoulos, who also holds the position of vice president of the ICS, as well as the general director of the chamber Thomas Kazakos.
The discussions centred on the serious issue of security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, where Houthi rebel attacks on ships and seafarers pose a significant threat.
Additionally, they reviewed upcoming developments ahead of the next round of negotiations by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on a new set of regulations aimed at further reducing greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping.
Finally, the CSC said in its statement, the ICS deliberated on its next steps to strengthen and develop global shipping.
