David Chiang joins Glander International Bunkering as Bunker Risk Manager

Glander International Bunkering has announced the hire of David Chiang as Bunker Risk Manager. With the increased demand for risk management products and services ahead of IMO 2020, this role was Glander International Bunkering’s response to shifting customer needs.

David Chiang says, “It is an exciting chapter in our initiative to create more value-added products and services for our clients. We aim to work globally to reach out to clients who can benefit from forward pricing products – which in turn provides more certainty in their bunker procurement.”

Based in the Singapore office, Chiang brings 16 years of experience in the bunkering industry.

Carsten Ladekjær, CEO of Glander International Bunkering, commented on the new appointment: “We are pleased to have David onboard at a time where the market gets more complex, and along with that the demand and expectations of our counterparties. With David’s expert knowledge and experience in the derivative markets, we will be able to offer tailored forward pricing solutions to our valued clients. This may help them position themselves favourably in the market and eliminate risky uncertainties on their future fuel costs.”

As the shipping industry gears up for the new regulations, Chiang’s role will be more important than ever before. “More clients consider hedging as a bunker requirement to mitigate risks from an expected volatile market. Risk management in forward pricing products is ideally suited for this objective,” he said.
