Denmark to boost ship inspections for Russian oil transports

Denmark has announced plans to intensify inspections of ships carrying Russian oil through its narrow straits. The move is aimed at safeguarding the environment and maritime safety from older vessels belonging to Moscow’s shadow fleet.

The Danish Maritime Authority will initiate Port State Control on ships anchored outside Skagen. This measure targets vessels that cannot be considered in innocent passage, as per a recent statement. These controls will verify that ships are adhering to rules concerning maritime safety, environmental protection, and the welfare of seafarers.

The authority has indicated that this initiative is a reaction to the rising activity of older vessels transporting oil through Danish waters.
