Drewry: Container Index Down 3.2% on the Week
The composite index is down 3.2% this week, but, 10.1% up as compared with same period of 2018.
The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1,731/40ft container, which is $229 higher than the five-year average of $1,502/40ft container.
Drewry’s composite World Container Index (WCI) dropped by 3.2% or $55 to $1664.24 per 40ft container. Freight rates on Shanghai-Rotterdam fell by $160 to $1794 for a 40ft box. Similarly, rates from Shanghai to New York decreased $63 to $3068 per feu. Conversely, freight rates on Shanghai-Genoa slightly increased by $12 to reach $1,895 for a 40ft container. Drewry expects rates to soften next week.
