Drewry: World Container Index Up By 6.2%

The composite index increased 6.2% this week, however, 3.9% down as compared with same period of 2018.

The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1,480 per 40ft container, which is $18 higher than the five-year average of $1,462 per 40ft container.

Drewry’s composite World Container Index (WCI) increased 6.2% or $80 to reach $1,370.93 per 40ft container. Freight rates on Shanghai-Log Angeles increased $190 to $1,452 for a 40ft container. Rates on Shanghai-Rotterdam grew $82 to reach $1,539 per feu. Similarly, freight rates from Rotterdam to New York rose $72 and stood at $2,344 for a 40ft box. Drewry expects that rates will dwindle next week.
