East China port’s cargo throughput up 6.1 percent in 2019

Qingdao port in east China’s Shandong Province saw cargo throughput rise 6.1 percent year on year to 515 million tonnes in 2019, according to the port’s operator.

Its container throughput reached 21.01 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), up 8.8 percent year on year.

Qingdao Port International Co., Ltd. is the primary operator of the port, one of the world’s largest ports.

The company’s operating revenue increased by 3.6 percent to 12.16 billion yuan (about 1.72 billion U.S. dollars) and its net profit saw a 5.5-percent growth to 3.79 billion yuan in 2019.
