Exciting Milestone at the Sea Cargo Charter’s 4th Annual Meeting in Oslo
KCC had the honor of hosting the Sea Cargo Charter’s fourth annual meeting at our offices in Oslo, co-hosted by Equinor and chaired by Trafigura and Cargill. This gathering brought together key industry leaders and signatories just weeks before the publication of the Sea Cargo Charter’s latest annual disclosure report.
The event focused on discussing the latest developments within the Sea Cargo Charter Association, highlighting our collective commitment to decarbonizing the shipping industry. Important decisions were made on governance, finances, and reinforced reporting modalities. Key topics included emissions setting, operational efficiency, and upcoming IMO policy measures.
Key Highlights:
- Ambitious Emission Targets: Signatories will report against new trajectories to match the IMO’s revised strategy aiming for a 100% reduction in emissions from international shipping by 2050.
- Scope Expansion: The Charter now fully allows shipowners to join the Association, enhancing collaboration and accountability.
- Enhanced Reporting Requirements: Starting 2026, signatories will report any voyage unless time-chartered out, increasing transparency and data accuracy.
Christian Bonfils, CEO of Copenhagen Commercial Platform (CCP), was elected to the Steering Committee, joining re-elected members from Bunge and Chevron. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving our decarbonization goals.
Rasmus Bach Nielsen, Sea Cargo Charter Chair, emphasized, “Our Annual Meeting arrives at a critical moment. Our signatories are poised to report against the latest and more ambitious IMO targets for the first time, demonstrating our commitment to evolving environmental standards.”
KCC is proud to be part of this pioneering initiative, driving the maritime industry towards a sustainable future. Read the full press release here. https://www.seacargocharter.org/following-scope-expansion-sea-cargo-charter-hosts-its-4th-annual-meeting-in-oslo/
