Fluechem Strengthens The Team To Deliver The First Onboard Urea Aus40 Generator System

Fluechem Ltd, the UK based supplier of chemical bunkering solutions, has signed an extended commercial agreement with ARAN SRL, an established designer and builder of urea production systems, to deliver the first ship based marine Urea Generator system.

The Technological and Commercial Agreement aligns the proven capabilities, experience and passion of both Fluechem and ARAN to accelerate the delivery and installation of the first system later this year.

Since the agreement was signed, Fluechem and ARAN have collaborated to create a base case design, utilising a proven ARAN fabricated land-based system, which incorporates input from shipowners across the world. This design can be tailored to suit all vessels whether retrofitted to existing urea users, added to new urea users when entering Environmental Control Areas or integrated into a new build.

Fitting the onboard urea blending system will enable users to blend urea solution to international standard as and when they require it, as opposed to purchasing pre-mixed liquid when available. This will reduce operational risk, save costs and further reduce the impact on the environment by reducing transportation. In addition, it will reduce the weight and volume used to store the urea solution on board resulting in a greater cargo carrying capacity and increased revenues for the shipowner.

Speaking at the announcement, Fluechem Director, Niall Roberts said:

“We see this partnership with ARAN as a major step forward in achieving our goal of installing a fully operational system on a ship by the end of the year. We share the same passion as ARAN and believe that offering shipowners the opportunity to independently blend urea solutions onboard is not only a win/win for them, but also for the wider environment. This supports our vision to build a sustainable technology based full-service company which creates value through innovation and the establishment of technologies and processes to minimise NOx emissions and the impact on the environment. We have recently strengthened the Fluechem team with some key members experienced in delivering similar systems to international standards, on budget and on schedule and I am excited at the progress we have made since forming the partnership with ARAN.”

The initial assessment has identified that an onboard urea blending system can deliver a 60% reduction in costs and 50% reduction in weight and space used on board a vessel as well as being 110% greener, when compared to the current method of supplying urea solutions in port.

ARAN CEO, Michele Romano commented:

“We are proud to be part of this great and historic change. The technologies developed and patented by ARAN are the latest technological advance in the field, they have been tested for over three years with terrestrial installations, continuously without any interruption and have produced millions of litres of urea solutions with the best standards of international qualities.”

Fluechem believes that providing customers with the option of a bespoke Urea Generator package and lifecycle service, built to their functional and business requirements, complements their existing chemical bunkering business and creates value for all stakeholders. The economic and environmental impact of a single unit for a single vessel can be enhanced further when customers select a standard design for a fleet of vessels.

Environmental sustainability is at the core of Fluechem’s vision for the future, the Urea Generator demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing solutions to help customers in all sectors further reduce their environmental footprints further, whilst saving money in the process.
