German coal importers need longer time horizon to rekindle activities -VDKi

Germany’s hard coal importers need longer-term assurances to rev up shipments to coal-burning power plants after years of slowdown under climate policies, the chairman of German coal importers’ group VDKi said on Monday.

“We need a perspective beyond one or two years,” said VDKi chairman Alexander Bethe, contacted by Reuters after the Economy Minister at the weekend supported more coal burning in order to spare gas for high-temperature industry processes.

“Five years would be a horizon for hiring or making a necessary investment here and there,” he said.
