Port development to boost cruise service
Friday, March 22, 2019, Benoa, Indonesia

Pelindo III is now developing Port of Benoa, in Bali, to give better service for cruise ship and its passengers.

The development includes:

  • Dredging: The depth of channel and the depth of water in front of East and South berth are increased into -12mlws. The width of Channel increased into 200m and the diameter of turning basin is increased into 420m.
  • Passenger Terminal: A new and larger cruise terminal is built to accommodate the new demand. The new passenger terminal capacity is increased from 800 passengers to 3,500 passengers. The terminal is equipped with standard facilities such as Custom, Immigration, Quarantine (CIQ) counter, x-ray, and check in counter. These facilities will improve turn around operation of cruise ship.
  • Marina Zone: Built to accommodate yacht and super yacht with a comfortable and safe facilities.

Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Trevor forecast to intensify
Friday, March 22, 2019, Northern Territory, Australia

Tropical Cyclone Trevor is located over water in the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria, within 30km of 14.1 deg. South, 140.3 deg. East and 175km west southwest of Aurukun, and moving southwest at 12km per hour. It is currently a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone with sustained winds near the centre of 110km per hour and wind gusts to 155km per hour.

Trevor is forecast to intensify further and continue its southwest movement today (22 March) and is likely to cross the Northern Territory coast tomorrow as a Category 4 severe tropical cyclone.

The Port of Gove is now at Condition Red and closed until at least Monday. The Port of Groote Eylandt is being evacuated and the port is closed.

At the Port of Weipa, however, the Yellow Alert has been lifted this morning and the port is returning to normal operations.

Tropical Cyclone Trevor is located over water in the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria.

Ports cleared for Tropical Cyclone Veronica
Friday, March 22, 2019, Dampier & Port Hedland, Australia

The Port of Dampier has been cleared due to Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica (Category 4 system), currently located north of Dampier.

This severe tropical cyclone should initially track south to southwest today, before taking a more south to south Easterly direction on Saturday as it reaches the Pilbara coast.

Dampier is currently experiencing northerly swell which will continue to intensify as the weather system approaches the Pilbara coast. Storm surges are likely to be experienced, which may be further intensified by the spring tides. The Tropical Cyclone is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and winds in excess of 100 knots to the Port of Dampier.

The Port of Port Hedland is at Cyclone Alert Stage 3 – Clear Port. Clear Port actions commenced at 0600 hours yesterday (21 March) and the port expects to be fully cleared by 1700 hours local time today. The Port’s anchorages have been cleared of all vessels.

Port Hedland is expected to experience gale force winds from this afternoon. Squalls and thunderstorms are also expected in the area related to this system.

Underwater noise survey of Soko Islands
Friday, March 22, 2019, Hong Kong

For approximately two months, underwater noise survey will be carried out at the following position (WGS 84 Datum): 22 deg. 09.410’N / 113 deg. 57.879’E.

The works will be carried out by one motor boat.

A working area of approximately 40 metres around the boat will be established. A yellow marker buoy will be laid to mark the position of the anchor extending from the boat.

The hours of work will be round-the-clock.

The vessel engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Planned suspension of traffic during meeting
Friday, March 22, 2019, Istanbul, Turkey

The Istanbul Harbour Master has advised that all local/cabotage traffic (for ferries and small vessels) will be suspended in the area nearest to Yenikapı Square on the south shore, where a meeting will be assembled from 08:00 to 22:00 hours local time on Sunday (24 March).

Further, no commercial vessels will be allowed to proceed to the anchorage place approximately 1NM from the meeting area between the hours of 01:00 and 22:00 local time.

At this stage, vessel traffic is not anticipated to be affected and will remain open during this meeting period.
