Incomplete tally puts EU 2023/24 soft wheat exports at 31 mln T

European Union soft wheat exports over the full 2023/24 season that ended on June 30 reached 31.00 million metric tons, the European Commission said on Tuesday in a provisional tally that lacked figures from top EU exporter France.
The incomplete count for 2023/24 put soft wheat exports down 2% from 31.60 million tons in 2022/23.
However, the Commission’s current tally for French soft wheat exports outside the EU at 9.05 million tons is about 1 million tons below other estimates of French shipments. The Commission said its grain export figures for France were incomplete since January.
The Commission’s data for Bulgaria, another major exporter of wheat in the EU, was incomplete for the whole of the 2023/24 season, it also said.
The Commission, which compiles customs data received from EU countries, has regularly reported problems with publishing EU export and import figures for grain, including a postponement last week of the end-of-season data for 2023/24.
EU barley exports in 2023/24 totalled 5.88 million tons, down 12% against 6.66 million tons in 2022/23, while EU 2023/24 maize imports were at 19.37 million tons, down 27% from 26.45 million in the previous season.
