Japan LNG above $10/MMBtu for first time since 2015

Japan paid an average of $10.18/MMBtu for the 7.6 mt of LNG it imported in August 2018, according to statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Finance. This marked an increase of 23% compared with August 2017, when the average price was $8.30/MMBtu. Rising oil prices in Q2 will have contributed to the higher prices Japan paid for August’s supplies of contracted LNG.
