Jordan issues new tender to buy 120,000 tonnes of wheat

Jordan’s state grain buyer the trade ministry has issued an international tender to buy 120,000 tonnes of milling wheat which can be sourced from optional origins, European traders said on Wednesday.

The tender deadline is March 10.

In the past few months Jordan has struggled to buy wheat and barley in tenders after changed terms for quality specifications and payment cut participation by international trading houses.

Although some recent tenders have been considerably more successful, only two trading houses participated in Jordan’s last wheat tender for 120,000 tonnes on Tuesday when no purchase was made.

The new tender seeks hard wheat for shipment in a range of possible combinations in 60,000 tonne consignments.

Possible shipment periods are Sept. 16-30, Oct. 1-15, Oct. 16-31 and Nov. 1-15.

A separate tender from Jordan to buy 120,000 tonnes of animal feed barley also closes on Wednesday.
