Laura Taylor joins TMC Marine as consultant naval architect
Naval architect Laura Taylor has joined TMC Marine as the company scales its global presence and scope of consultancy services in the UK, USA and Asia.
Laura joins TMC Marine’s London office from Shell where she was the naval architecture lead on multiple projects, including new build inland waterway barges, FPSO decommissioning, LNG bunkering vessels and operations and hydrogen as a marine fuel.
With more than 20 years’ experience across different sectors and vessel types, Laura’s experience spans new build tenders and construction contracts including future fuels development and decarbonisation, through to operations planning, in-service maintenance and decommissioning.
Announcing her appointment, Marcus Cave, TMC Marine Casualty, Claims and Dispute Solutions GSL Lead, said: “Laura’s strong, diverse background strengthens our core competencies. She brings first-hand experience of new and developing technologies which will complement our alternative technologies and carbon transition teams. We look forward to introducing Laura in person to our clients in the near future and working to develop her professional goals within our team.”
Laura said: “The move to TMC Marine allows me to focus on technical consultancy drawing on my experience across many different vessel types particularly in the fields of future fuels, electric vessels, LNG and emerging technologies.”
Prior to joining Shell in 2018, Laura was at Sealion Shipping Limited where she oversaw three new builds in South Korea and China, managing large site teams and technically complex dynamic positioning (DP) offshore construction and support vessels.
Between 2005 and 2012, Laura worked in in-service support and ship repair for Fleet Support Limited in Portsmouth Naval Base, which later became part of BAE Systems. This comprehensive grounding in naval architecture involved frequent periods on board and, during docking periods, underneath different ships, from the historic HMS Victory to the Type 45 destroyers and Ro-Pax ferries.
Laura studied Naval Architecture at Newcastle University, graduating with an MEng in 2005. She is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
TMC Marine’s naval architecture practice which includes 10 naval architects working from offices across the UK and in Singapore, is led by Marcus Cave. Last month, TMC Marine invested in its energy transition practice, announcing the appointment of Robert Clark as the company’s first Head of Advisory and Energy Transition.
