Libya’s Bahr al-Salam Phase 2 gas project starts first well

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Thursday that production had started at the first well in the Bahr al-Salam Phase 2 project in the country’s largest offshore gas field.

Ten wells will be onstream by October, adding output of 400 million cubic feet of standard gas per day and bringing total field production to 1,100 million cubic feet per day, the NOC said in a statement.

Bahr al-Salam, located about 120 km northwest of Tripoli, contains over 260 billion cubic metres of gas. It is operated by Mellitah Oil and Gas, a joint venture between NOC and Italy’s Eni.
