Money talks: Shipping and business heavyweights invest in Moscord

Moscord, the rapidly growing e-marketplace for maritime supplies, revealed that it has attracted a unique group of high profile industry leaders as key investors.

The Singapore headquartered business is aiming to transform the ship supplies segment with a lean digital trading platform whereby customers can buy products directly from suppliers – slashing costs, increasing efficiency and creating complete procurement transparency. It’s a concept that, Moscord Founder Freddy Ingemann says, makes perfect business sense to Klaus Nyborg, Selfinvest, Tom Olesen, Impact A/S, Kim Sorensen, and Martin Langvad.

Redefining procurement

“In the same way e-commerce has transformed retail, Moscord’s maritime e-marketplace will redefine ship supply procurement, delivering enhanced value, service and control… right at your fingertips,” Ingemann explains.

“This is the future and the fact that these hugely respected, talented and experienced individuals are prepared to back it demonstrates Moscord’s enormous potential. As the first-mover with this concept we have a clear advantage. With the backing of these industry leaders, as well as the growing number of suppliers and manufacturers that are now signing up to provide products through Moscord.com, we now have the momentum to turn opportunity into success.”

Unique experience

Moscord recently announced the recruitment of Lars Rosenkrands, former CEO of Seven Seas Group, as Commercial Director, and Michael Klint as Director of Operations. It now welcomes Nyborg, Selfinvest, Olesen, Langvad and Sorensen as investors while Olesen also takes up the position of Executive Director, with Nyborg, Ask Ullerup (on behalf of Impact A/S), Sorensen and Langvad assuming Board Member roles.

Nyborg is well-known for a stellar career in shipping that has seen him hold Vice President and CFO roles within A.P. Moller Maersk, as well as the CEO position of DS Norden, while Selfinvest is owned by Torben Østergaard Nielsen. The renowned Danish businessman is owner of United Shipping & Trading Company (USTC), which in turn owns and operates Bunker Holding, one of the world’s biggest bunker suppliers, among other shipping companies.

Olesen is a respected entrepreneur and investor, with considerable international management experience. Sorensen was previously Chief Commercial Officer with Panalpina and is current Nordic CEO for logistics specialist Nagel Group. E-commerce expert Ullerup joins as Board Member for Impact A/S, a Copenhagen-based world leading digital commerce agency. Finally, Langvad has spent almost 20 years in Vice President roles at CEMEX, a global leader in building materials. Together, Ingemann stresses, they offer something truly unique.

Invaluable insights

“The breadth of business experience, acumen and vast management and operational expertise our investors bring to the table is staggering,” he states. “Their invaluable insights will feed into our strategic decision-making process, while their financial backing will help us develop a platform delivering compelling benefits to stakeholders throughout the shipping and supply/manufacturing sectors.

“With well over 100,000 quality products now on line, from leading brands and suppliers such as Schneider Electric and RS Components, we have firm foundations for growth in place. As awareness and understanding of our service gathers we see the movement of customers to this new procurement model as an inevitability. They, like our investors, will see the huge value of this simple, yet ground-breaking, way of doing business.”

Benefit driven growth

Moscord.com provides customers with the ability to browse products at set contracted prices, assessing and ordering the exact type and quality of product they need (from consumables, to engine parts, safety equipment, tools and uniforms). Suppliers and manufacturers, meanwhile, get direct connections with customers and a powerful, efficient and cost-effective sales channel.

With a lean process, just-on-time delivery to desired locations and ports worldwide, and no third party setting prices Moscord provides optimal convenience, value and control. Ingemann says the business is primed for rapid growth and has targeted seizing 10% of the entire global ship supply sector, within its relevant categories, over the course of the next five years.
