New container shipping route opens between China, North America

A container vessel loaded with 4,950 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) berthed at Qinzhou automated container terminal, marking the opening of the first direct container shipping line between the city in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and western North America.

The new route will further facilitate trade services between southwestern China and North America. Ships will mainly call at ports of Qinzhou, Hong Kong and Vancouver.

The new line will shorten the travel time from the Beibu Gulf in Guangxi to western North America to only about 20 days. Beibu Gulf Port, a trade and logistics passage connecting 14 provincial-level regions in China, has 316 ports in 107 countries and regions around the world. The route will also play an important role in the construction of the Qinzhou Port Area of China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
