Rains Favor Wheat Crops In Central Argentina – Buenos Aires Exchange

Recent showers in central Argentina have helped the development of the country’s 2021/22 wheat crops, the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange said on Thursday, although high temperatures expected over the days ahead could pose a risk going forward.

The country, a major wheat exporter, especially to neighboring Brazil, is expected to harvest a record high 19.2 million tonnes of the grain this season. Harvesting is expected to begin in earnest late this year and last into January.

“Rains over the last week favor the development of late-planted wheat fields. Despite this, the relief could be limited due to forecasted high temperature for the center-northern part of the farm belt during the next few days,” the exchange said in its weekly crop report.

Only about 2% of the 2021/22 wheat crop has been brought in so far, the exchange said.

Regarding Argentina’s 2021/22 corn, it said 26.3% of the 7.1 million hectares expected to be planted had been sown so far. The corn harvest this season is expected by the exchange at 55 million tonnes as corn supplants soy as the country’s top crop.
