Remote Operation of Machinery and Automation Systems
DNV GL, automation systems vendor Høglund, ferry operator Fjord1, and the Norwegian Maritime Authority have come together in the ROMAS project, to explore the concept of moving the engine control room from the ship to a shore-based engine control centre. In such a centre, chief engineers can operate the propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems of a single ship, or a fleet of vessels. The first testing phase of the ROMAS project has been completed. The results were presented at Nor-Shipping in Oslo.
