RS participated in 77th session of the IACS Council
The Council of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) held its 77th session on 26 – 28 June, 2018 in the DNV GL Office (Hamburg, Germany). In the Council, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping is represented by Konstantin Palnikov, the RS Director General.
The IACS Council, the main management structure of the Association, holds meetings twice a year and performs extensive intersession correspondence activity.
The Hamburg session was marked by taking over the IACS Chairmanship by the Korean Register (KR) on 1 July, 2018 replacing DNV GL. Mr Jeong-kie Lee was elected as the IACS Council Chairman and Mr Joo-sung Park − the Chairman of the IACS General Policy Group (GPG).
This year the IACS celebrates its 50th anniversary. The Association was established in 1968 as an international non-governmental organization aimed at unification of the requirements and procedures regulating the activity of classification societies, and over these years has been making a significant contribution to improvement of safe navigation standards and environmental pollution prevention.
