Spain Unemployment Continues To Ease
Spanish unemployment decreased for a second straight month in April, figures from the Labor Ministry revealed Wednesday.
The number of unemployed declined by 83,599 persons or by 2.04 percent from the previous month. The biggest decrease was registered in the services sector.
Meanwhile, the results of the latest Purchasing Managers’ Survey, released on Wednesday, revealed a slower rise in employment in the Spanish services sector. The rate of job creation was the weakest in 15 months.
The total number of jobless was 4.01 million in April, the ministry report showed. The figure decreased 7.43 percent from a year ago.
In March, the number of unemployed declined by 1.40 percent from the previous month and 8.02 percent from last year. The jobless total was 4.09 million.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number of unemployed decreased by 8,329 persons in April.
The unemployment among those below the age of 25 declined by 6,060 persons from previous month and by 40,955 persons from a year ago. The youth unemployment totaled 341,057 persons in April versus 347,117 persons in March.
Data from the statistical office INE showed last week that the country’s jobless rate held steady at 21 percent in the first quarter of the year. In the first quarter of 2015, the figure was 23.78 percent.
