SSA Marine Earns 2020 Environmental Stewardship Award
The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), at its “State of the Alliance” event, announced SSA Marine as the recipient of its 2020 North Star Environmental Stewardship Award.
Dick Marzano, Port of Tacoma Commission President and NWSA Co-Chair stated, “As we all work toward a cleaner environment, SSA Marine has been a true friend of the environment proactively implementing multiple programs to reduce their impact on the environment. For instance, at Terminal 18 in Seattle, SSA Marine converted all yard lighting from traditional high-pressure sodium bulbs to LED. This new system is computer controlled providing the ability to adjust voltage to each light pole for varying operational situations. This conversion has resulted in a 1.2 million kilowatt-hour reduction in energy consumption.”
The NWSA awards program recognizes customers and stakeholders in the Seattle/Tacoma gateway for outstanding achievement and their contributions to the economic and environmental vitality of the Puget Sound region. The annual award celebrates companies demonstrating leadership through actions and initiatives that support the NWSA gateway.
“We at SSA Marine, are very proud to receive this award. It’s a testament to the efforts of our employees and our company as we continually strive to identify and implement practical sustainability programs to protect the environment and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest” noted Ed DeNike, President SSA Marine Containers.
