Svitzer further strengthens its operations in Americas
With increasing growth opportunities within the terminal towage sector of the Americas region, Svitzer is strengthening its organisational and managerial setup in order to pursue these opportunities. To support this growth accordingly in selected countries and ports, Svitzer is appointing Rutger Thulin as new Managing Director for the Terminal Towage Cluster in Americas, spanning Svitzer’s operations in Canada, Peru, Costa Rica, Statia, and the Bahamas.
Rutger Thulin comes with a proven track record from different management positions throughout his 14 years with the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. He has been with Svitzer for seven years, and for the past four years, he has been Managing Director for Svitzer Brazil.
Commenting on the appointment, Arjen Van Dijk, Managing Director, Svitzer Americas, said: “Terminal towage is a key business segment for Svitzer and represents a notable part of the total towage business in the Americas, with a significant growth potential. I am very pleased that Rutger Thulin has agreed to lead our efforts and, together with the rest of the team, work to realise our growth ambitions in the coming years. Although competition is fierce, I firmly believe that our global ownership, footprint and experience, combined with in-depth regional and local knowledge, is an advantage – not only to us – but also to our customers, many of which are large global companies.”
With more than 80 vessels operating in ports and terminals in 12 different countries, Svitzer is heavily engaged in the Americas region – with harbour towage and terminal towage as its main market segments.
