The Mission to Seafarers issues call for seafarer welfare nominations at annual Singapore Awards

The Mission to Seafarers has called for nominations for individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to improving the welfare of seafarers.

The leading international seafarer welfare charity has unveiled the categories for this year’s Singapore Awards Dinner, which will take place on 10th May 2019. The awards honour the commitment and contributions to seafarers’ welfare made by seafarers, shore staff and shipping companies around the globe.

The four categories are:
• The seafarer who has contributed significantly to the welfare of fellow crew on board
• The seafarer who has contributed significantly to crew welfare within their organisation
• The shore-based employee who has made a significant contribution to seafarers’ welfare
• The company which has made a significant contribution to seafarers’ welfare

The Mission is also accepting nominations for the Secretary General’s Award. This is a special award for outstanding service to seafarers’ welfare, and all staff and volunteers who have been with the Mission for a minimum of five years are eligible to enter.

Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General, The Mission to Seafarers, said:

“We want to hear your stories and nominations for those individuals and organisations who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference to seafarer welfare. Our Singapore Awards will celebrate the achievements of the many seafarers, shore staff and companies around the world that care and contribute to the wellbeing of our seafarers.

“If you have a crewmate or colleague that has made a difference in the lives of seafarers, or if you know of an organisation that has gone the extra mile to support the men and women that serve at sea, we want to hear from you.”

The Awards dinner will take place at Singapore’s InterContinental Hotel, and is supported by gold sponsors Shell and BHP, along with North P&I Club, Wärtsilä, Singapore Organisation of Seamen, China Navigation, the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union, and the glass awards sponsor Wallem. The event will open with a drinks reception sponsored by HFW.

Details on how to submit a nomination or book a table at the dinner can be found on the Mission’s website at www.missiontoseafarers.org/Event/singapore-awards-dinner-2019.
