The MSRC applauds the Quebec government’s initiative to revitalize the ports of the Lower St. Lawrence through Advantage St. Lawrence.

The Minister for Transport Chantal Rouleau has announced investments totalling over $130 M for the rehabilitation of the ports of Gros-Cacouna, Rimouski, and Matane. Quebec’s vision for the maritime industry is aimed at reconciling economic development with the protection of ecosystems to ensure the sustainability of the river and the people living along its shores. This will revitalize a local maritime industry that has long been the backbone of the Quebec economy.

To this end, the Société portuaire du Bas-Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie has commissioned the MSRC to conduct operational feasibility studies for the ports of Matane and Gros-Cacouna using its navigation simulators.

In December 2020, the MSRC team validated the project to expand the Matane port facilities. Recently, it also conducted a study on the extent of the proposed dredging area of the port of Gros-Cacouna. “We are proud to have contributed to the realization of these projects which will facilitate infrastructure upgrades and development, thus consolidating the commercial and industrial vocation of these two ports,” said MSRC’s director Paul Racicot.
