Turkey buys about 135,000 wheat in tender -trade

Turkey’s state grain board TMO has provisionally purchased about 135,000 tonnes of wheat in an international tender for the same volume which closed on Thursday, traders said.

The tonnages purchased and prices are still subject to final confirmation in coming days, traders said

Traders said the purchase involved 25,000 tonnes bought from Bunge at $257.95 c&f for shipment to the port of Derince, 25,000 tonnes from Sierentz at $259.90 a tonne c&f for shipment to the port of Izmir and 25,000 tonnes from Orsett at $255.90 a tonne c&f for shipment to Band?rma.

Other purchases were made of about 25,000 tonnes from trading house Mova at $252.50 a tonne c&f for shipment to Samsun and 25,000 tonnes at $257.75 a tonne c&f bought from Glencore for shipment to Tekirdag.

A final purchase of 10,000 tonnes was made from Mova at $253.70 a tonne c&f for shipment to the port of Trabzon, they said.

Shipment is requested between Oct. 16 and Nov. 2.

Red milling wheat is sought in a series of consignments, with five of 25,000 tonnes and one of 10,000 tonnes. The wheat is for unloading in the Turkish ports of Derince, Izmir, Bandirma, Tekirdag, Samsun and Trabzon.

Offers are sought for wheat with a minimum 12.5% protein content. The TMO reserves the right to buy up to 5% more or less than the tender volume at its own discretion, the traders said.

The tender continues an active period of grain importing by Turkey to cool local prices and support the country’s large flour export programme.

In its last reported wheat tender on Sept. 16, the TMO purchased about 440,000 tonnes.
