Ukraine’s June 1-15 grain, oilseed exports down m/m to 1.97 mln T, union says
Ukraine’s June 1-15 grain and oilseed exports fell to 1.97 million metric tons from 2.69 million tons May 1-15, Ukrainian traders union UGA said on Tuesday.
UGA said wheat exports fell to 514,000 tons from 762,000 tons.
Corn exports fell to 1.30 million tons from 1.71 million tons, traders said.
The union gave no explanation for the fall in shipments.
June is the last month of the July-June marketing year and traders and producers traditionally reduce trade and export activity in anticipation of a new harvest.
Acting agriculture minister Taras Vysotskiy said on Saturday that farmers in the southern regions of Ukraine had started the 2024 grain harvest.
Ukraine traditionally starts harvesting grain in the second half of June.
ASAP Agri consultancy this week said starting prices for Ukrainian wheat for the 2024 harvest would be 3-8% higher than last year’s prices but were likely to fall.
Prices for Ukrainian milling wheat with 11.5% protein content could be 8% higher year on year, while feed wheat prices could rise by 3%, the consultancy said.)
