2020’s Breakfast with EMAC series kicks off with ‘Common mistakes in Maritime Contracts’

In 2019 EMAC proved its commitment to providing a trusted standard in maritime arbitration and mediation through its intensive schedule of meetings and events. At these activities the Centre has heard from many who deal with maritime contracts, noting that there are many detailed terms which are often the cause of delay in dispute management.

At the first Breakfast with EMAC on 21 January 2020, the format of ‘Breakfast with EMAC’ took the discussions about the common mistakes in maritime contracts, with speakers, David Galea, Partner at Ince Dubai and Caleb Raywood, General Counsel at Polarcus. Both speakers presented their views based on practical experience with suggestions on how to void issues related to poorly drafted standard terms.

The seminar intended to facilitate a better understanding of the importance of attention to the wording in some standard terms specific to maritime contracts.

“EMAC was present at a total of 110 events in 2019. Our goal is to show the industry that we are here to support alternative dispute resolution as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.” said Mr. Majid Obaid bin Bashir, Chairman and Secretary General at EMAC. “2020 presents a wide range of opportunities in the region including EXPO 2020 in Dubai, and EMAC is certainly looking forward to being a part of it with the maritime cluster.”

EMAC’s list of events have been posted on the Centre’s website, with the Breakfast series continuing on 17 February 2020.
