ABPmer’s audit confirms the Port of Milford Haven’s clear focus on marine safety standards

The Port Marine Safety Code assurance audit is required for all UK Harbour Authorities and any organisation running port marine terminals. The Port of Milford Haven commissioned ABPmer to provide a full and transparent check of its compliance with the requirements of the Code. The aim of an assurance visit is to confirm that ports and harbours are maintaining standards of marine safety, in line with the requirements of the Code.

The Port of Milford Haven is a leading UK port handling over 30 million tonnes of cargo annually. The Harbour Authority is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of all vessels on the Milford Haven Waterway. The Authority provides a Pilotage service, vessel traffic services (VTS) for monitoring navigational safety, and a dedicated water ranger for on-the-water safety and assistance.

Following the three-day assurance audit ABPmer is pleased to confirm that the Port of Milford Haven is compliant with all requirements of the Code. The audit tested the 10 key measures required for compliance, together with the associated benchmarking for safe port marine operations.

The Authority’s Harbourmaster, Mike Ryan said: “This is further endorsement and confirmation of the Port’s commitment to providing a safe operation for all port users. The audit clearly demonstrates that it’s not a cliché – safety really does come first in everything that we do.”
