French President Emmanuel Macron, China’s President Xi Jinping and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attend a trilateral meeting at the Elysee Palace in Paris as part of the Chinese president’s two-day state visit in France, May 6, 2024.

It is legitimate for France and China to each support their domestic industries, but any such policies have to be done fairly and reciprocally, French Finance Minsiter Bruno Le Maire said on Monday.

Le Maire added that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s current visit to France was a good opportunity to build a balanced trade partnership. “We are currently far from balanced”, he added.
