Pakistan tenders for 90,000 tonnes wheat after million tonne purchases

A government agency in Pakistan has issued an international tender to purchase and import 90,000 tonnes of wheat, keeping up a trend of strong import demand after more than 1.1 million tonnes bought in past weeks, European traders said on Wednesday.

The deadline for submission of offers in the tender from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is Oct. 13.

Pakistan’s heavy international purchases have been aimed at improving tight domestic supplies, in a bid to cool prices. It bought an estimated 550,000 tonnes in a tender on Oct. 1 and 575,000 tonnes on Sept. 23. GRA/TEND

But traders had expected more purchases as they believed the south Asian nation’s import needs had still not been met.

The wheat in the latest tender can be supplied from optional origins. The TCP reserves the right to buy 5% more or less than the tender volume.
